HYPERPIGMENTATION

Hyperpigmentation, also called uneven pigmentation refers to uneven skin tone and uneven darkening of your skin. Specific cells in your body produce melanin, which is a pigment responsible for your skin and hair colour. Melanin is usually distributed evenly over your skin to provide your skin with its overall even tone. If any of your skin cells are damaged or unhealthy, the even distribution of melanin gets kicked out of its cyclical production causing an overproduction and underproduction of melanin resulting in a hyperpigmentation.

Your body naturally produces too much melanin to protect your skin from UV light causing brown spots. If too little melanin is produced lighter spots occur. Causes of hyperpigmentation include too much sun exposure, heredity, some ethnicities, are prone to certain skin conditions and skin disorders, ageing, specific health conditions, and pregnancy.
