Dry Skin Eczema

Eczema is an inflammatory skin condition. Symptoms include dry, red, scaly, rough, watery weeping fluid and blistered skin which often leads to irritation, itchiness and bleeding. There are three different types of eczema:

Atopic Eczema

Dry, itchy, cracked, sore and red skin.

Contact Eczema

Often localised, often with redness, itching and burning sensation. Often caused when the skin is in contact with an allergen.

Seborrhoeic Eczema

Often not itchy, often has scaly patches, usually on the scalp and face

Many things may cause eczema including:
  • Environmental factors, e.g. dust, mould, pollens, heat, air pollution, smoke and humidity.
  • Gut and intestinal imbalances.
  • Allergies.
  • Genetic predisposition.
  • Emotional stress.
  • Bacterial skin infection.
  • Sweat.
  • Wool clothing.
  • Pets.
  • Chemicals found in household and skin care products.

Please refer to the Skin Deep section of the EWG website to check any products for common irritant ingredients.

Acne and Blemishes

As a holistic skincare range, lovingly blended by naturopath and herbalist Barbara Filokostas we naturally suggest treating this condition holistically.

  1. Prescription Medication
  2. Many are available, but most prescription medication treats only the symptoms of eczema and not the cause. They often have some negative drawbacks. Choose wisely, if at all. Always check with your healthcare provider.

Dr Elizabeth Lipski, clinical nutritionist and author of several books on nutrition and digestion including of Digestive Wellness states that “eczema starts from within the body, it needs addressing systematically. Often treated with cortisone cream, but this will suppress your immune function. Although effective, there is often a rebound effect after you stop using the cream, and your symptoms may return worse than before”.

  3. Natural Eczema Creams

Natural plant-based ingredients such as chamomile, calendula, olive squalene and vitamin E will help soothe and heal your skin without any adverse side effects.
